I don’t know how I made it without Jesus. I didn’t! He was always with me, beside me and guiding me even when I did not know it was him. He protected and provided for me when I was clueless about His existence. This morning I was looking at some pictures from 2011 and thought “oh how my life has changed since then”. How many people would have been impacted, had I not said “yes” when Jesus knocked. I thought about my friends, family and the thousands of strangers that I am meant to impact with God’s light.
Then I think about the complexity of life, how so much is unknown and so much is complex and even confusing. I think about this ongoing spiritual warfare on this earth and yet every human has this desire for tranquility and the absence of turmoil and hardship. How strange it is, that each person desires this tranquil state of being, yet we were born into a world with the complete opposite. God’s word even says that we will have trials on earth but that we ought to take heart, or be comforted, because He has overcome the world (John 16: 33).
What if persons had nothing to believe in, what if life was the sum of all our accomplishments, experiences, desires and circumstances. What if the current inequality in terms of physical capability and means was all there is; life will be very hard for some and much easier for others.
Belief in Jesus and the cross is the great equalizer, with the same promise and end for all those who believe. The unfairness and turmoil of life will be just a bit more bearable because of the hope that there is a better “end” and that turmoil, hardship and strife is not all that there is to this life.
I believe in God, because otherwise, my satisfaction in life will be based on the tenuous and shifting tides of chance and circumstance. I am reminded of this scripture in Psalm 1:
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the
way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the
Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted
by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not
wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
God’s way is the best way, belief in Christ is the best way; for all the world has is hopeless, turmoil and hardship, to eternal damnation without Jesus.
But through Jesus, life is hopefulness in the midst of turmoil and hardship with the hope and promise of eternal life with God.
