Peace In You

Writer: Krystal Baynes-HoseineeKrystal Baynes-Hoseinee

Don't we have a natural yearning in our hearts for rest, calm and an atmosphere of peace whenever we are facing challenges or are amid turmoil? I have been mesmerised by a song ‘I Find My Peace In You’ by Naomi Raine, for the past few weeks because, apart from the melodious symphony, soul touching voices and calming ambiance, I can deeply relate to the lyrics.

It is evident that God has placed in us an instinctive desire for peace, but if 10 people are asked to define ‘peace’, 10 different answers may be given. However, with God, Peace means one thing: absolute trust and rest in Him through Jesus Christ.

Jesus often used parables to convey deep biblical truths, but when He spoke on the topic of peace, He was clear, and direct saying “in me you may have Peace” (John 16:33). This yearning for abiding rest is timeless because all other worldly acclamations of power, possessions and prestige can never replace Peace. Without peace human beings will always feel as if something is missing in their lives.

I couldn't help but notice that in John 16:33 Jesus says that in Him we "may" have peace, which suggests that it is something which we must choose to receive. In another place in the bible He distinguishes the peace that the world gives from His peace (John 14:27), which means that there is actually a false type of peace. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you." The bible is basically saying that both the nature of what was given and the manner of giving are unlike what the world gives. Not only is the world's peace false, but it is temporal. Conversely, Jesus' peace is true and lasting.

Reflection 10 in the book ‘My Favourite Scriptures' shows that Peace is neither situational nor time bound, but that it is abiding and immovable. “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3). At a particular season in my life when chaos dominated and nothing made sense, I needed something to soothe my aching soul, and that something was peace.

When we are experiencing turbulence and tempest and we are longing for a remedy that will help us to concentrate during the day and to sleep well at night, the solution is Peace.

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder and His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

The antidote for tribulation is Peace. Peace is a person, who is the saviour of the world and our comforter amid calamity. Jesus is our Peace. He is our Peace because in Him we receive strength, courage and grace that abides and which is mightier than any struggle. John 14:27 in the amplified bible says, “Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge". The Peace of God will defy logic and cause you to smile when you have every reason to cry and cause you to thrive although it feels as if you’re dying inside.

Peace is accomplishing the impossible (walking on water) while storms are raging around you.

Peace is your confidence in God’s ability to make a way through your ‘Red Sea'.

Peace is courage to endure in your wilderness.

Peace is the assurance that God won’t let you be defeated.

Find peace in Jesus. Find joy in Jesus. Let all of your hope for your present and your future be sustained in Jesus.

Call on the name of the Lord, when you are in trouble and declare that you trust Him, especially when nothing makes sense.

Peace is a powerful weapon in the artillery of the believer, “having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]”. (Ephesians 6:15 AMP)

You can fight despair with peace.

You can resist anxiety with peace.

You can defeat sexual bondage with peace.

You can control your thought-life with Peace.

Let's Pray ...

“Lord, today I choose to fill myself with so much of you that I leave no room for anything else, not negative thoughts, not despair, nor hopelessness. As I feed on your word, it has become my solid foundation. I do not have to be afraid of anything because you are here with me. Every day, you teach me to trust you more and release all my cares to you. My mind belongs to you, my heart belongs to you, my body belongs to you, and you are my God. Amen.”
